Dan
Argraves,
artist/blacksmith and founder of Iron Horse Iron Works began
his formal training in blacksmithing in the mid '80's learning
his craft under the tutelage of several exceptional blacksmiths
around the greater San Francisco Bay area all the while shoeing
horses, saving his money for the necessary equipment and machinery
to open his own shop which he did in 1988. |

Dan can trace his love of hot steel to his childhood in Cleveland
Ohio. His backyard was the train yards, ore ship docks and steel
mills of the area known as "the flats". Ignoring the
danger, he would sneak into the mills and watch with fascination
as trains and ore ships unloaded the raw ore and "coke"
for the furnaces. It was then processed into ingots to be hammered
and or rolled into various shapes and shipped out to various
locations to help create America's destiny and unknown to Dan,
his as well. |

Time moved on and Dan had developed a career in horse shoeing.
In this occupation was of course the need to heat and hammer
steel shoes into shape, this is where his desire to create in
hot steel was realized and from childhood to a career with fire
and steel, the name Iron Horse Iron Works was born. |
